Samurai Deeper Kyo

Samurai Deeper Kyo is a Japanese manga series created by Akimine Kamijyo and published by Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine from October 1999 to May 2006. The series accumulated over 38 volumes and was adapted later into an animated television series. It was first aired in Japan in 2002 and counted 26 episodes. Samurai Deeper Kyo was also translated into other languages and has been released in Germany, Indonesia, France, Spain, and Singapore. A video game based on the plot of the manga was created in Japan in 2002 for a Game Boy Advance console.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is a story about Demon Eyes Kyo (or Onime no Kyo), who is a famous warrior and who was called the Thousand Slayer for killing over 1,000 samurai in the battle of Sekigahara. He is pretty much into killing people he doesn't like and all goes well until he's defeated by his rival Mibu Kyoshiro and his soul is placed and sealed in the body of the man who killed him. Now Demon Eyes Kyo needs to find a way to regain his body and his dignity as well.

The events of the Samurai Deeper Kyo manga are getting unfold in the society ruled by the clan called Mibu. They're descendants of the great Mibu, but all of the existing Mibu are not real, but only descendants of "battle dolls", creatures created by the Mibu to fight for their amusement. All the real Mibu were gradually vanished fighting each other or fallen by the "Disease of Death" and the only real Mibu left is our main hero Demon Eyes Kyo. The main plot of Samurai Deeper Kyo is followed by numerous smaller story lines leading to new ones and each other.

Demon Eye Kyo is evolving through the development of manga as well. First, he's a merciless, blood-lusting samurai, who enjoys slaughtering and killing just for the joy of killing. He kills anyone he doesn't like and those he doesn't kill outright, he first humiliates and then kills. But as the manga progresses, his temper is getting cooler and after training under Muramasa, he seems to be able to control his rage and appears almost always calm.
