Afro Samurai

Afro Samurai is a Japanese anime series directed by Fuminori Kizaki and produced by Japanese animation studio Gonzo. The series features the main character Afro, who gets his name for his hairstyle and the action takes the place in Japan, with a little adjustment in time to be futuristic, but still ruled by the sword. Or to be exact, it is ruled by "Number One", the strongest warrior. There is also the "Number Two" who can challenge "Number One" anytime to take this place and everyone else can challenge in their turn "Number Two". The plot of the story is that Afro's father was "Number One", but was cruelly killed in the front of Afro when Afro was a child by "Justice", "Number Two" of that time and the main evil character. Afro Samurai is "Number Two" now and he's after "Justice", who is "Number One" now, seeking for vengeance, in the quest to revenge his father. Afro Samurai features the voice of Samuel L. Jackson as adult Afro and his sidekick companion Ninja Ninja.

Afro Samurai was initially a Japanese self-published manga created by Takashi Okazaki. It was later adapted for the anime series and first broadcasted online on January 1, 2007. A week later it was shown on a cable TV in the United States. Later the same year, it was broadcasted in UK, Japan, and Australia. At the same year, Afro Samurai was released on DVD and Blue-ray Disc in two versions: original as broadcasted and unrated director's cut.

It's been announced that there will be a sequel for Afro Samurai called "Afro Samurai: Resurrection". A new season is planned to be broadcasted in 2009 and it will feature the voice of Lucy Liu, who's going to be a new nemesis of our hero. There was also an announcement by Japanese game developers in Namco that they're going to create a game based on the Afro Samurai theme.
